The study of nature in Mexico is an unforgettable adventure
Having spent many vacations in Cancun, Mexico, I decided to give the step and go to explore the beautiful nature he had admired in my previous trips. Having lived many years in the comfort and safety of American suburbia, the time has come for adventure. After learning Spanish, I went to the Yucatan and rented a house in the suburbs of Playa del Carmen and I hired a maid. Then with the help of hired guides and friends, I have visited many remote places in the jungles of Mexico. It was an unforgettable experience of seeing a variety of animals in their natural habitat.
The thriving town of Playa del Carmen is an hour south of Cancun, and easily accessible by public transport. Both cities are in the Caribbean, where coral reefs abound along the coast. The beauty of white limestone sand and vivid colors, the turquoise water of the sea that attracted me there. Being an artist of nature, I was fascinated by plants and animals of the region. Armed with my cameras, drawing paper and pens, I have to work in developing and photograph insects, birds, plants and anything else exotic. I soon got a job working as an illustrator for a large natural park called Xcaret.
Whenever I had a drawing to deliver to my employer, I board the bus used to Xcaret, and then down a long road back to the jungle side of the park to the Board. These walks fascinated me, because the track was next to fenced enclosures for zoo and an aviary. Pink flamingos, spider monkeys and harpy eagle were animals I could see the best track. Once I made the mistake of giving a monkey a cookie, only to see the monkeys run after him to fly, trying to knock you down! Quickly got a couple of witnesses gave the rest of them, to prevent monkeys original injury. They all sat there eating quietly as I slipped, with the hope that nobody saw.
In Mexico, you will see iguanas in their natural habitat often. As I walked down the path of nature on my way to work, there was rustling in the tall tree near me. I looked up to see a tall man of 6 feet male green iguana with a bright orange strip on the back in the canopy of trees. He looked at me. I remember people telling me that iguanas are good to eat, taste, chicken, and are called "chicken of the tree." I never knew if it was true or not, but then I was not about to go eat iguanas. No, I am not adventurous in my choice to eat. Black iguanas can be seen more often sat next to a pile of stones. In all parties had rocks were male iguanas basking in the sun. interesting creatures. In the Chankanaab Park (on the island of Cozumel) is a huge iguana to walk public places independently of humans that pass before her. It will sting if touched, said park employees. So he took pictures and keep my distance.
Another lizard that was interesting and plentiful, has been basilisk basilisk, basil. There is some basil varieties in Mexico. It can run on water if it becomes quite frightening, and I saw fear after unintentionally. Later, I found a smaller and encouraged my work, intense eyes, very serious. When I had finished drawing, ran, standing in the jungle, glad to be free of the great fear of man with whom he spent a few hours.
The forests of Mexico are fascinating, but I do not recommend walking your way into one. First, the foliage is very dense. Secondly, there are mistakes that can hurt you if provoked, that is, scorpions, snakes and spiders. Look, but do not touch. I saw all these areas, and people pay to remove them from my house. Scorpions come after you if you are nervous. Stay away quickly, where you can not follow. The lighter color, they said, are more dangerous than black. There are tarantulas in Mexico, and are large but not aggressive thank God. I had a Red-kneed tarantula withdrawn from the front of my door once. My maid used to trash other spiders, it's inside, and they laugh when I'm panicked by them. "What this is harmless!" She said. Yuck. I took his word.
Regarding snakes, there are some are reason enough to not walk alone in the forest. First, there is enormous boas. My ex-husband was called by the side of the ladies, to remove a 6-foot boa in her apartment rent. They said that everything has slipped into the back door open. Lesson learned, never leave an open door to your house if you live near the forest. Then there is a snake called Coralio people purple. I do not know its scientific name, but it was beautiful, but deadly. A man who lived almost gives me an apartment full of snakes, and I teach them more closely. Snakes are interesting, but it is useful to see where you walk, since I left and I almost stepped on a for an evening stroll. There are other snakes to see, but What are the types we have seen. All snakes in their own affairs, if not caused, apparently, evil seems to be that humans are not giving attention and activity in an error. So it is better to see where you walk.
Then there was the amazing birds. A great variety of colors, shapes and sizes, birds Mexico are exotic and fascinating. My favorites are the Toco Toucan, Motmot, currasows, Yucatan Jay, the cute tan, and Pileated woodpecker and purple Trogon (father of the quetzal). They had the ability to display each time you did not have my camera with me. Drawing and take notes on what they saw, and then watch later. It was not a bird that was so colorful that people called him, "Seven Colors" (seven colors). After looking up, I have identified as a painted flags. Another bird inhabitants called "Flycatcher (yellow chest), also known as Kiskadee great, sat outside my window and scream," EEEE, eeee! the top of their lungs. It used to remind and he responded. Very funny bird.
In Playa del Carmen, there is an outdoor aviary, built in the jungle, in the section of Playacar. I went there and made a tour to see different birds that are hidden in the jungle. A bird has taken a liking to me, paujiles ban that followed me everywhere. It has been my guide to the birds, and posed for photos with freedom. Finally got to see a close chachalaca, father of a turkey, who is shy, strong (its call sounds like a rusty meat grinder), and group travel. In addition, there were red ibis, more pink flamingos, herons, and much more. The aviary is a must if you visit Playacar.
Another interesting natural area in the Yucatan peninsula were all mistakes. The insects of all kinds in large quantities. I could have done without all the mosquitoes, but thank God for insect repellent. My favorites are the butterflies. Sometimes when driving on isolated roads, we find several butterfiles undulating masses of yellow, white or black. Monarchs also large groups migrate to Mexico, I saw them once, too. The most beautiful butterfly I found in nature, in my opinion, the Morpho butterfly. It has large iridescent blue wings, was not as common as other butterflies, and preferred the intimacy of depopulated areas like fields and forests. There was another butterfly that was tall, dark and tight ends, was the size of a broad tax base. It was called a butterfly owl, and flew slow. I am very close to him and seemed to have no fear. There were drawings on their wings that were like the numbers. Fascinating.
Beetles. Ahh, beetles .. not very graceful, and apparently not entirely clear, but engage with their antics less graceful. There were gold beetles used to fly my window as I often worked. In general, landed on his back, legs waving helplessly in the air. Finally, the situation would trust me turn right side up, then fly some, others end up somehow in the back again. Was it weird, but I was able to attract these insects metallic color, it looked as if it were gold satin gold.
Locusts and grasshoppers are abundant in the forests of Yucatan. There are so many varieties of lobsters, I lost count. For the Grasshoppers. their bodies are huge, the size of a sparrow. I took one, draw, then when I went to my balcony flew in a straight path. His big green body was visible for a very long time, he flew toward the sun, it was surreal.
sea creatures and fish are abundant in the Caribbean Sea. Although reefs are at risk and signs of damage, which are always beautiful. Every day, I plunged into the low traffic area near me. It was clear to go to the beach early in the morning, take a few shells on the ground, then to my house on the beach. I snorkel until my body is cold, every day. There are not many large predators swam in areas due to the breakwater along the coast, separating the costs of the deepest ocean. Once or twice a barracuda found its way into the area of the reef, my, what big teeth they have. There, you can see dolphins playing in the waves made by large yachts and ferries. Dolphins are very social creatures and seem to fear humans. Some of the most memorable fish and smaller creatures I saw were the starfish (fragility they live under rocks and try your hand quickly if you have one), octopus, conch, sea turtles, moray eels, blue tongues and of course, these feisty ladies. Although I did not have my diving license, I went on some trips underwater work, where the water was so shallow, snorkeling was possible. The tours are ideal for finding beautiful gardens reefs that are not visible to everyone. The most beautiful I've seen were near the town of Puerto Morelos.
Other places I love to explore are the Cenotes Azul and Dos Ojos. The cenotes are brackish water bodies of the Mayan Indians to build their villages around. Now they are sitting in the jungle and the entry of tourists to go cave diving. In Yucatan Peninsula is a complex network of caves that attract cave divers from around the world. Not me, I preferred to just swim in the crystal waters of the mouth of the cenote, like fish that I've seen. One of the cenotes also the fish I saw in the back of the pet in the U.S., there is swimming naturally. Jack Dempsey Green Sailfin Mollies fish, a fish species livebearer I did not know. They were very colorful, and the Dempseys, who is fighting cichlids like to take from each other, has fin rot. However, all fish were in very good health. How wonderful it is to swim among them in their natural habitat. The nature around is also cenotes interesting. I saw a basilisk to run through the water when I swim very close to him and a duck diving for fish and stay underwater for an extended period. Nature abundant around the cenotes.
The nature of Mexico is rich and beautiful in all its forms. The warm tropical climate, flora and fauna highlights unlike anything I've seen in my country of origin of the Ohio, or even in my current state of Florida. Living among the lush jungle, hear the frogs singing in the jungle at night and spend time with my beautiful Mexican colleagues, guides and friends has changed my life. Be respectful of nature (see, not touch) and see where you walk, you can see clouds of butterflies, colorful birds and animals such as coatis, agoutis and other normally seen only in zoos. My employer will promote the conservation of wildlife in Mexico, and I the honor to do all the work comes naturally to them. I miss walking on the path of his office in the jungle a week and see the animals at the zoo, and wild trees. If you love nature, be sure to visit Mexico and visits to see the beauty of nature, but with professionals who know where it will take. This will be an experience you will enjoy and remember forever.
